WORK VESSEL MYSIS
The Mysis was built at Sturgeon Bay Ship Building and Drydock Co. in Wisconsin, with funds for the design and construction provided by the National Science Foundation. The vessel was re-furbished for 2003 with new powerplant and structural modifications.
The ship is equipped with two hydraulically operated winches: a BT winch with 1,500 ft. of 1/8" diameter wire and a larger winch with 2,000 ft. of 3/16" diameter wire. An A-Frame on the stern is used for trawling and hauling heavy gear.
Electronic and navigation equipment include a 1/4 to 16 nautical mile radar, DGPS Chart Plotter, and depth sounder. Safety equipment includes; E.P.I.R.B., life raft, PFD's, fire fighting equipment, automatic halon system and dry chemical extinguishers.
The Mysis is a USCG certified inspected passenger for hire vessel with a limited coastwise range from Eastport ME to Point Judith RI out to 20 miles.
The Mysis can sleep 4 scientists with a galley and dining area.
There is a single 75 sq. ft. general purpose work station on the main deck. The work station is equipped with an air system, a sink with hot and cold potable water, and 115 vac electric service, 220 vac single phase or three phase power, and a continuous flow of seawater can be provided in the station if required. The aft end of the ship has approximately 200 sq. ft. of clear deck space.
The R/V Mysis is available for diving support.
